Since my initial post about it yesterday, there has been a tremendous amount of interest in the Characters in Flight experience at Downtown Disney and the view from the balloon, so here is a little more information and some more pictures for you.
Guests board a large, ring-shaped gondola for the ascent. The gondola offers 360° views, as well as plenty of room to move around so you can see it all.
The balloon is piloted by a team of professionals, all of whom have some sort of background in aviation. While the balloon is securely tethered to the ground at all times, if it should ever break free for some reason, the onboard crew will be able to guide it safely back down to earth.
According to Aerophile, Characters in Flight at the Walt Disney World Resort is the largest balloon of its kind in the world. It definitely ranks as a spectacular addition to Downtown Disney and the Central Florida skyline.
