Let's take a trip over to Disney's Animal Kingdom today, specifically to Dinoland, U.S.A. The marquee at the entrance to Dinoland is done in a style reminiscent of National Park signs. It instantly places us in the American West and calls up memories of road trips in the family truckster. But where is Dinoland exactly? Well, it's in Diggs County along U.S. Highway 498, about 50 miles from the nearest city. This marker can be found at the side of the road which separates the tourist-oriented commercial ventures of Chester & Hester from the Dino Institute-funded research efforts happening in the area:
Of course, those in the know might catch that Hwy 498 is actually a tribute to the opening date of Disney's Animal Kingdom. The park (and Dinoland, U.S.A. itself) opened April 22, 1998.
