Long before the debut of The American Idol Experience, wannabe singers visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios had another place where they could strut their stuff. Sights & Sounds, located on the southeast end of Hollywood Boulevard in what is now part of the Keystone Clothiers shop, was a recording studio attraction in which Guests could create their own music video to take home as a souvenir.
Sponsored by music publishing company Selah, Sights & Sounds operated for little more than a year, starting at the opening of Disney-MGM Studios on May 1, 1989. A similar attraction was also part of the original line-up at Pleasure Island when it opened that same year. While it must have been fun to star in your own video shoot, few people actually took advantage of the opportunity, and neither location lasted very long.
Ultimately, Sights & Sounds was absorbed into an expansion of Keystone Clothiers. Today, all that remains is the original marquee (above), on which the Sights & Sounds name has been replaced with the phrase, "You oughta be in pictures."
