This is Diggs County, where fossils are a way of life! This little spot off US Highway 498 is a hotbed of paleontological activity. The first set of dinosaur bones were discovered here back in 1947. Since then, the area has attracted a flurry of scientists, tourists and opportunists.
Of course, things in Diggs County aren't all as happy-go-lucky as that billboard on the highway might suggest. There's conflict and disagreement here, between groups with diverging interests and even within the scientific community. But there is one thing that everyone who lives in or visits Diggs County has in common... a fascination with extinct creatures that once roamed the earth.
It's little wonder this place has come to be known as Dinoland, U.S.A.
Go back and check out this post for an overview of Dinoland history, and come back every day this week for a look at some of the rich details that help bring the story of this land to life.
I never feel a need to comment on this blog (the posts are self-explanatory, not much need for commenting) but I'm posting this one time to let you know I've been a daily reader for months now. You do a great job of highlighting bits and pieces of imagineering creativity, and I always look forward to the next post!
