Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom is a rough and tumble pioneer town, inspired by America's westward push during the 1800s. It's a time of excitement, adventure, hope and promise, but it's also a time fraught with danger. Is it any wonder that the entrance to Frontierland is a log fort? Look closely, and you may spy the barrel of a rifle peeking out from one of the turrets.
Frontierland sits at the edge of a vast wilderness, populated by Indians and wild animals. Lookout posts like the one beside the river (below) help guard against attack. There's a canteen for hydration and a lantern for use after sunset, and should the soldier on watch spot anything, there's a bugle to alert the town and call for help.
Of course, since this is Walt Disney World, these dangers are kept at bay. Just like the rest of the Magic Kingdom, Frontierland presents an idealized version of the Old West. As we embrace the pioneer spirit, about the biggest danger we'll face is sunburn.
