On the surface, the Hall of Champions is an adult apparel store with a degree of focus on sports-related clothing. Within the story of Main Street, U.S.A., however, it's an upscale athletic club for the citizens of the town, inspired by the trophy rooms and alumni clubs of the turn-of-the-last-century.
The walls are covered in team photos, trophies, plaques and athletic equipment, celebrating the achievements of the town's various sporting leagues and sports heroes. A design motif found throughout the shop (seen on the wallpaper in the photo above) is a laurel wreath, the Greek symbol of triumph.
Hall of Champions opened in 2006, a modified version of the Main Street Athletic Club which preceded it. In the change, the decor of the shop was altered to allow for a broader selection of merchandise, as well as incorporate an element of diversity in the storytelling. Hall of Champions pays tribute to some of the pioneers in sports history, including women, African-Americans and others.
Originally, this space on Main Street was home to several different facilities, including the Penny Arcade (once found behind the facade pictured below). Other sections, like the one seen at the top of this article, housed the Magic Shop and the Main Street Book Shop. In the mid-90s, the video games were sent back to the future (to Tomorrowland), and the period pieces from the Penny Arcade found new homes in the Main Street Railroad Station and Disney's Boardwalk Resort, making way for new offerings along Main Street, U.S.A.
