After a good race or a long day on the slopes of Blizzard Beach, skiers (and swimmers) can come together and share stories over some potent potables at the Polar Pub. If you go, belly up to the bar and take note of the decor. You'll see vintage signs and postcards from ski resorts across the country, along with a collection of antique sleds, skis, ice skates and snowshoes.

I have a couple questions about "What Would Walt Do" pins and I wanted an insider's opinion. Have you ever gotten a WWWD pin? Are WWWD pins meaningful to cast members? Is there another way that cast members would prefer that guest show their appreciation?

ReplyDeleteI personally have never received one of those pins, but I have been presented a couple of nice cards by Guests as a similar kind of Thank You. The first time it happened, I was so choked up I was speechless. I think everyone likes being appreciated, and for those of us who take great pride in carrying on Walt's tradition, there's no greater feeling than knowing we've succeeded in the eyes of a Disney fan.
Great post Shawn. I am a winter sports nut and really appreciated the "belly up" view of the antique winter sports items. I see a set of antique Northland skis, a few old wooden Davos German sleds (one with a curved 'rams head' front), a set of vintage wooden and rawhide Tubbs snowshoes, a set of Lund downhill skis c. 1920's, a vintage Canadian toboggan, some American flexible flyer sleds, the list goes on and on. I have always been fascinated with Disney's ability to transform even something as plain as a refreshment hut into a wonder of winters past. Thanks again for your post.
