Main Street Library

On the corner of the Town Square, right next to City Hall is the library of Main Street, otherwise known as The Storybook Store. It's a shop that sells books, of course, but take a look inside and the library story becomes apparent.

Just beyond the front doors is the librarian's desk, where one might check out or return a book. In this case, an animated Tigger is working the desk, dutifully stamping away at library cards.

As is often the case, the real details are found above. There are handsome gas chandeliers, ornate iron railings, a beautiful inlaid ceiling and figures of classic Disney characters in period costumes, going about the daily work of the library. Here, you'll find Minnie pulling a book for a customer, Goofy reading away and Chip & Dale scurrying through the card catalogue (something appropriate to the time but likely unfamiliar today).

The duck family is also well-represented, with Donald unsuccessfully attempting to carry more books than he should and Huey, Dewey and Louie scampering up a ladder to the top shelf.

There's even my favorite guy, Mr. Know It All himself - Professor Ludwig Von Drake, looking a bit flustered at all the noise and activity disturbing this place of "luuurrning!"

  1. I believe the library's interior design was influenced by the library in the film version of The Music Man.
