It's a Wonderful Shop

There is one corner of the Streets of America backlot that is dressed for Christmas year-round. Tucked away between Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano and Pizza Planet is Parkside Antiques. Unlike many of the other facades on the street, the antique shop actually opens into a real space (albeit still a movie set).

The Parkside Antiques set has been decorated for the filming of a Christmas production inside and out. A blanket of artificial snow (complete with snowman) covers the ground, and the store windows have been adorned with a marketing slogan: "It's a Wonderful Shop for Holiday Gifts"

Inside, we can tell this is just a set. After all, they only built what the camera needs to see. The ceiling is left unfinished, a place for Lighting Designers to hang their rigs. The theme park merchandise for sale here mingles with props that further flesh out the antique store setting, including paintings, statuary and even an old Santa costume still in its original box.

This time of year, the decor of Parkside Antiques fits right in. The rest of the time, though, it's a reminder of the movie magic that can be created here on the Studio backlot.
