On the edge of Old Town Harambe is Ziwani Traders, a general store of sorts for everyone's last-minute needs before embarking on a safari expedition on the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. Inside, the merchants of Ziwani Traders carry just about anything one might be looking for. Hiking boots? Check. Woven baskets? Check. Fishing gear? Check.
Bottled water. Pith helmets. Binoculars. Newspapers in both Swahili and English... Hey, look! The Harambe Stars are playing Ghana today in a World Cup qualifying match. (That would be football, soccer for the uninitiated.)
The Ziwani folks are always happy to help anyone out. Need to use the phone? Book a safari tour? Reserve a seat at the Tusker House? No problem. Of course, you do remember how to use one of these rotary dial numbers, right? They're helpful here, just not the most technologically advanced. They'll save the gadgets for those places in New Town, thank you very much!
Ziwani Traders is about the simple things, the basic necessities for survival on the savanna. Here, you can pick up a place to sit and a place to sleep:
You can grab some food and a hot plate to cook it:
They even have a few "comforts" of modern life... like toilet paper. Yep, Ziwani Traders is definitely a must-visit for anyone coming to Harambe.
Thank you for this blog. I am fascinated by the stories and details of every facet of the parks. I'm inspired by the work you and other imagineers do. Thanks for sharing. :) Tiffany
