Up, Up, and Away

Characters in Flight is the newest addition to Downtown Disney at the Walt Disney World Resort. Operated by French company Aerophile, it is similar to the tethered balloon attraction which has been operating at the Disney Village at Disneyland Resort Paris for several years.

Yesterday, my wife had the opportunity to be among the first to experience Characters in Flight. How did she sum it up? In a word, "Awesome!"

The balloon lifts Guests to a height of up to 400 feet, offering spectacular views of Downtown Disney and the entire surrounding area. She mentioned she could clearly make out Spaceship Earth, Expedition Everest, and Disney's Contemporary Resort. She also mentioned that it was a little scary... between the height and the movement of the balloon at that altitude.

Of course, Characters in Flight doesn't operate in windy conditions, and there are other limitations based on weather conditions. For complete information, including operating hours and prices, please visit www.disneyworld.com and follow the links for Downtown Disney Area attractions.

  4. If you like that, you should really save up for a hot air balloon flight, like the ones given through Champagne Balloon Flights, out of Kissimmee. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary with a balloon flight. It was an great experience.
